What's it about:

1500 Words is a short film by Andrew Chaplin that revolves around a young man, Stanley, who has precisely 1500 words to live. He must sustain his marriage and go on with his life using only a limited number of words. The story takes off when Stanley has one word left and must choose how to use it. This dark comedy stars Marcus Garvey and mainly tells the story via narrations by Michael Smiley.

What's hot:

1500 Words has won the Best Short Film Award at the London Independent Film Festival and the New York Independent Film Festival.

When one reads the plot of the film, it seems like it could go two ways. The film could either tug on your heart's strings or make you roll on the floor with laughter. However, 1500 Words manages to do both. It finds the perfect balance between humour and emotion and will be sure to leave a mark.

The film is quite ironic, as it is about a man with limited words to use but relies on narrations for the most part. However, the narration takes the audience through the film and ensures there isn't a dull moment with the limited dialogues.

Perhaps the film teaches us about the value of our words and nudges us to choose our words wisely. It also makes us wonder if some situations require us to remain silent. 1500 Words teaches us to speak to the point and be mindful of what we say.

What's not:

The only negative aspect of the film is that its dark comedy may not appeal to some viewers. Other than that, the film is indeed worth the watch.

Verdict:

This funny, charming and emotional short film is definitely worth the watch. It will be sure to get you thinking about what you would do if you learned you had 1500 words left to live. Who would you choose to speak to? And what would you say?
