What's it about:

Aaichi Jai is all about a young man who desires to leave home and head to Mumbai to pursue his career. However, his mother has a hard time adapting to this change.

What's hot:

This Marathi short film deals with an issue that is rarely spoken about, the empty nest syndrome. We witness a youngster who is extremely excited to leave home and start a new life. However, although his mother is happy and proud of him, she feels a sense of sadness about the thought of him leaving.

She tries to hold on to him in any way she can and prepares a last-minute meal for him, so they can share it together before he leaves. She also shows him an old picture of when she planted a coconut tree in his childhood and reminisces about all the great memories they made.

It is sad to see the two get into a fight just before the son's departure. However, we realize that the fight began because his mother is unable to accept the fact that her son is leaving home for good. We also never see her husband in the film, which could mean she is a single mother, thus making matters worse.

The heartbreaking moment of the son leaving home without bidding his mother goodbye takes a turn for the better when a coconut from the tree he planted falls as he steps out. He takes this as a sign and goes back in to hug his mother. Their reconciliation will be sure to bring tears to your eyes.
