Aaromaaley movie plot:

Ajith (Kishen Das) is a hardcore romantic whose idea of love stems through watching films. But when he forced by his parents to join a job at a matrimony agency, he meets Anjali (Shivathmika Rajashekar) who is pragmatic with her clients and sees them nothing more than profiles. Will they do match?

Aaromaley movie review:

In Aaromaley, the protagonist Ajith is a roadside Romeo and film buff, to be very specific, a true consumer of picturised, big-screen romance. Probably it was him missing to catch a show of playboy romance film Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai in February 2010 along with his friends, that made him watch Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa instead. A film that had gone beyond inspiring this film’s title and pinned hopes on a true, single love, which subsequently made Ajith yearn for a soulmate. But come his birthdays, not once but twice, Ajith gets a dose realisation about his love through the gifts he gets from the girls he has hopes on. As light and simple as it sounds, Aaromaley too, is just as casual and breezy as a watch.

Aaromaley radiates a refreshing youthful energy, in which the protagonist’s love for cinema, has even made him crash his ex-lover Sneha’s church wedding. After a plethora of film references, and little emotional blocks, Ajith ends up working at a matrimony agency, where he meets Anjali, his over-achieving senior manager. Her pragmatic approach towards setting up couples, merely based on their profiles and queries, earn her a high position in the company’s hierarchy, but not in front of Ajith. She doesn’t have to either, which is why they ultimately lock horns in racing against each other to find Narasimha, a man in his 50s, a life partner. Director Sarang Thiagu makes sure that his first half is built solid, packed with clean comedy, neat romances, and light-hearted moments. Kishen is great, and so is Harshath Khan, who plays his buddy Sachin. Shivathmika scores with her restrained acting, and VTV Ganesh as Narasimha adds some humour. There is something vibrant, and engagingly light-hearted in the way Aaromaley turns out, given the film majorly is built on fleeting moments and impactful performances.

However, that being said, Aaromaley does take an emotional turn with its remaining half, and falls back to keep us guessing like any other romantic film; will the lead pair get the happily ever after. The film does miss out on showing us why Anjali and Ajith seem to be a likely pair, or what caused them to drive away from each other in moments, but earns massive brownie points in keeping the narrative grounded and rooted to reality at any cost. Ajith never needs to flex his muscles to show that he is a hero, and so does Anjali need not go through dire situations, wanting her to be rescued. There is a clear personal boundary between the characters who are positioned in an office setup, and the film never oversteps beyond reality. It positions itself as not too dramatic, and that is what makes Aaromaley a comforting watch. The characters are relatable, the situations ever more so. Even when the second half features an emotional scene when Ajith gets to know a crucial information about his mother’s past, the tears are not milked, and not dwelled longer than needed. Probably, a scene that makes Narasimhan burst out at the idea of listening to his possible partner wanting to lead a life away from his mother, may seem dismissive of the woman’s wants and choices of lifestyle. Or even when Ajith, who is clearly enchanted by the idea of romance, does not clearly make us understand why he keeps falling for women he does and how he is able to move on if he is truly bowled over by them. But that apart, Aaromaley is a film that has the power to soothe you with its softness.
