Avihitham Story - Prakashan finds an illicit affair between Vinod and an unknown woman in the backyard of Madhavan's house. Soon, this new spreads and a group of men including his sons and a few local residents take 'responsibility' on themselves to find who the culprits are.
Avihitham Review - The most recent film directed by Senna Hegde is another daring attempt to draw attention to patriarchy and social norms. The movie humorously examines these subjects, making every effort to ridicule our society's unrelenting gaze on women. This movie depicts a society that still upholds the notion that women are responsible for "upholding a family's dignity" rather than denigrating any particular community or region.
In Madhavan's backyard, Prakashan discovers an extramarital relationship between Vinod and an unidentified woman. He asks Venu, the tailor, to corroborate his claims by being at the same place the next day. As word of this gets out, Madhavan's daughter-in-law Nirmala is suspected of infidelity. A gang of men, including Madhavan's sons and a few locals, soon assume charge for identifying the offenders and inflicting corrective actions.
Although the film is based on an extramarital romance, as the title implies, the main focus of Avihitham is the confusion and misunderstanding around it. In the meantime, the creators have made an effort to show that such an affair is not solely a man's right. The movie opens with some hazy dialogues in which a group of men discuss some lady in an explicit way. The audience is then introduced to a gang of men who are snooping on a woman on suspicion of bringing shame to their family. The idea that women must take care of their families and upholding dignity is undoubtedly not one that can be limited to any one society or area, but it is evident in all generations.
Avihitham depicts these individuals and their behaviour in a humorous manner without becoming preachy, yet it makes us question how serious the situation is. The makers additionally lay out a familiar idea of women expecting respect from their loved ones or families but being let down by their dismissive attitude.
Similar to his prior film, Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam, Senna asks if anyone has ever asked her what she wants or thinks. However, regardless of how frequently such topics are brought up, they are typically disregarded or, more accurately, forgotten. The characters in the movie are effectively constructed, leaving the audience both entertained and thinking about the proper course of action in these situations.
Each member of the cast gives their best performance, which adds an honest element to the movie. As Venu or Ravaneshwaram's Van Heusen, Unni Raj is funny to watch. Everything works well for the audience, offering a humorous perspective on prying eyes in our society, with one exception of the film's predictable element.
Avihitham Verdict - Senna Hegde's film is much more than just a story about an extramarital affair. Our patriarchal society, which still adheres to gender stereotypes, is closely examined but satirised.
