Bakaiti Review: A delightful tale of bonding through bickering and banter

Bakaiti Story: Bakaiti, streaming on ZEE5 via OTTplay Premium, revolves around the Kataria family in old Ghaziabad. The couple, Sanjay and Sushma, and their children, Naina and Bharat, are facing financial problems. Hence, to earn extra income, they decide to rent out a room in their house, leading Bharat to share his room with Naina. This creates conflict and friction between the siblings. Meanwhile, the arrival of a new tenant adds another layer to the family's struggles and relationships.

Set in old Ghaziabad, Bakaiti revolves around the sweet Kataria family. Sanjay Kataria (Rajesh Tailang) is an advocate, while his wife, Sushma (Sheeba Chadha), is a housewife having a passion for weaving clothes. Their daughter, Naina (Tanya Sharma), is all set to pursue her post-graduation, while her brother, Bharat (Aditya Shukla), is a cricket lover and is waiting for his board results. 

The Kataria family is simple like other ordinary Indian households, where bickering is a part of life; however, they never go out of love for each other, hence, bonding is also an equally important part. Amid this, the family faces a financial crisis, and this leads Sushma and Sanjay to decide to rent one of their rooms. After a lot of drama between the siblings, Naina's room was selected for rent. This scene was beautifully portrayed in the series, exactly like how it happens in a middle-class family. 

The siblings' arguments never stop. They also give business ideas to their father so that he can forget about renting. But nothing works. 

Amid this, Bakaiti (pointless chatter) continues between Sanjay and his brother Ajay and his family. Their father dies, and Ajay suggests that Sanjay rent the whole house, but he goes against it. This leads to a cold war between the two families. An Indian household without arguments is impossible to find, and the Kataria family is one such great example. Bakaiti is a refreshing watch where the plot deals with family dramas, making it a relatable series. 

One day, a new tenant comes to Sanjay's house, and Naina grows feelings for him. A love story between a tenant and the daughter of the owner of the house is quite common. They talk about various topics with each other, but each time Naina tries to woo him, the new tenant seems a bit off, only to find that he is a married man and has been going through family issues. 

When Naina gets a scholarship and an admission offer from a famous Mumbai college for her post-graduation, she is denied because Sanjay used the money to save his family. After a lot of drama and unable to tolerate this, Naina leaves her house on her birthday, leaving a note. This creates a whole drama. Like every parent, Sanjay and Sushma were worried about their daughter. Ajay and his family also come in support, but in the midst of this, their 'Bakaiti' continues. 

When Naina is found, finally, the whole family celebrates her birthday, making a delightful scene and highlighting the importance of family bonding. The series, directed by Ameet Guptha and produced by Pocket Aces Pictures, reflects the unsaid love, everyday struggles, and quiet strength that define so many Indian homes.

Speaking about writing and directing, the series neither feels monotonous nor feels dragged. The whole 7 episodes are much-needed to shape the Bakaiti. Rajesh and Sheeba's acting performances were heartwarming along with the others.
