Beauty is written and directed by JSS Vardhan and tells the story of how today’s young get attracted to boys, spoil their lives, and land their parents in deep trouble. The best part of Beauty is that it has romance, family drama, and thrills at their best. One of the key twists revealed in the last half hour will surely shock one and all.
Director Vardhan initially establishes the story of a young college-going girl and how she is wooed by a young man. The scenes related to their romance look forced, but once the actual conflict point is introduced, things turn on their head. The heroine getting naughty with her boyfriend through a video call and her mother witnessing this and having an emotional outburst is one of the best scenes in the film.
Some of the harsh realities of today’s youth are addressed through a parent’s perspective. The director clearly does not take sides and narrates the entire film through a father’s perspective. How a middle-class father takes loans to educate his kids and how the younger generation misuses freedom is showcased through the character of the heroine, Alekhya. Such scenes have been showcased in many films to date, and all this deviates from the film’s core point a bit.

But the second half is filled with thrills and family drama. There is hardly any dull moment, and how the couple ignore their parents and get into trouble is showcased in a gripping manner. All the scenes involving the couple landing at the police station, how a crooked cop misleads them, and how an external force eyes the heroine are showcased well.
On the other hand, the father’s emotional search for his daughter is also added neatly into the setup. All these threads are blended well, and the twist that comes through is the best part and shocks the audience.
Coming to the performances, Nilakhi plays the female lead and she is amazing. Be it romance, aggression, innocence, or guilt, her character has solid scope, and Nilakhi delivers a strong performance. Ankith Koyya, who is slowly but steadily making his presence felt, gets a career-best role and delivers a stunning performance. His innocence is striking, and the way he transforms into an emotional character in the second half is remarkable.

Vasuki, as the heroine’s mother, gets a strong role and performs supremely well. Senior actor Naresh is outstanding as the doting father, with his emotional outbursts in the second half sure to bring tears to your eyes. The rest of the cast is adequate.
The production values of the film are top-notch, with visuals beautifully showcasing Vizag and Hyderabad’s bustling life. The dialogues are impactful, especially those written for the heroine. Editing is neat, and the production design is impressive.

Star director Maruthi has backed this project, which looks routine at the outset but carries beautiful layers of emotions, thrills, and family drama. Beauty also sends a strong message to parents and makes for a breezy watch this weekend. You can also stream it on OTTplay once its theatrical run concludes.
On the whole, Beauty is a well-made romantic family drama that has gripping thrills. Though the film starts on a routine and slow note, once it finds its footing, the engaging narration and crazy twists keep you hooked till the end.
