Black, White & Gray - Love Kills Story: SonyLIV's latest crime thriller drama, Black, White & Gray – Love Kills, follows Daniel Gray, a determined and dedicated journalist who goes on a mission to uncover a murder trail linked to an elusive young man from an economically disadvantaged background. This series, directed by Pushkar Sunil Mahabal, explores themes of corruption, patriarchy, and social division.
Recently, I watched a K-drama, titled Karma, on Netflix, which focuses widely on a web of ill-fated relationships, leading to bitter revenge and consequences. I was amazed by how six characters become entangled in a one story and face their Karma. It proves how a series of lies can lead you into big danger.
In the midst of this, SonyLIV has released a new crime thriller drama, Black, White & Gray - Love Kills, which delves into a murder trail involving an elusive young man from an economically disadvantaged background. Not gonna lie, Black, White & Gray - Love Kills reminds me of Karma as its kinda similar to how one person is involved in the whole drama.

Black, White, & Gray - Love Kills, consisting of 6 episodes, follows a foreign journalist who uncovers the truth behind the murder of four people. He starts documenting every person involved in the case, including the police and the accused (Mayur More). Four murders and one suspect, and that is the accused.
The accused, who belongs to a poor family background, falls in love with a rich family's daughter. Notably, his father works for the girl's father, who is an influential person. From the beginning, the series highlights the societal discrimination between the poor and the rich.
The trail of murder begins when the accused and his lover plan to try a one-night stand at a hotel without informing anyone except the girl's best friend. But their plan takes a tragic turn when the girl faints and the accused thinks she has died.
Even though the series starts really well in the sense of execution, suspense, and thrill, it loses its charm right after 2nd episode. Some scenes legit feel abrupt and incomplete. Following this, three more murders take place with the accused and the girl as the witnesses.
Having come to this point, the direction as well as the writing could have been more solid, as it majorly lacks the proper thrilling element. As it is a crime thriller drama, I expected it to be more suspenseful and gripping, but it was sadly not the case.
The series mainly highlights how influential people use their power to blur the lines between guilt and innocence. It explores the raw side of corruption, strong patriarchy, and social inequality.
Amid too many murders, the accused tries to save himself from the politics, as he says that he did not murder anyone in the journalist's mockumentary. As per the accused, he is the scapegoat. It is an example of how a series of lies becomes a danger and ultimately leaves its cruel consequences.
The motif of the series was praiseworthy, but it faces poor editing, execution, and direction. However, Mayur More's acting in the series was one of the best in his career. His raw emotion truly makes you feel for his situation at times. His dialogue delivery and expression are also commendable.
A large part of our society is still against a love story between a rich and a poor family, and the rich family tries their best to stay away from the poor family; the series also highlights that part. Apart from that, it also shows how influential people do not pay heed to the people from a disadvantaged background, and they are often asked to keep their mouths shut.
The series would have deserved to gain praise if the direction and writing were more developed. At times, it tests your patience as the subject of the series was not fully utilised and seems abrupt. Meanwhile, the double perspective can also confuse the viewers in the series.
Black, White & Gray - Love Kills lacks proper development while showcasing one of the trending subjects - corruption and societal inequality. In the poorly executed drama, Mayur More truly shines with his acting brilliance. However, the plot, though gripping, literally kills its own suspense and thrill while cooking four murders properly.
