Chiranjeeva Story

Raj (Raj Tarun) is an ambulance driver who loves speed. One fine day, he meets with an accident and gains special powers of knowing the lifelines of everyone he meets through a special meter. Using these special powers, he helps many around him. But the twist in the tale arises when Raj comes to know that a group of people is in danger related to a minister played by Raja Ravindra. The rest of the story is about how Raj saves everyone using his special powers.

Chiranjeeva Review:

Chiranjeeva has been written and directed by actor Abhinaya Krishna. He has chosen a concept of a man having special powers to know how long one can live. Why does the hero have such powers, and how did he use them to save the lives of many, is the basic theme of the film.

This concept sounds new and has not been dealt with before in the Telugu OTT space to date. But it is the narration that lacks focus and is bland for the most part. The director could have narrated the script in different ways, but he chose comedy as its forte, and this is where the film falters.

The scenes showcasing how the hero saves people are established well, but other episodes are a bit over the top and drag on for no reason. The entire first half goes into establishing the characters, and the core concept is revealed late. This takes away most of the time and does not give the director enough time to establish the main plot.

The scenes are predictable, and the situational comedy works only to an extent. The love track between Raj Tarun and Kushita Kallapu looks outdated and does not bring anything to the table.

However, there are a few thrills in the second half that have been executed well and create an impact. But the climax is predictable, as one knows what is going to happen next in the narrative.

Director Abhinaya Krishna dilutes the plot as he does not give much importance to the emotions and concentrates more on comedy. This is where things go for a toss. Had he made the thrills even more effective and added a strong connectivity factor, the outcome would have been even better.

Coming to the performances, Raj Tarun has a natural flair for comedy and does well for the most part. His slang and the modulation used when he sees a special meter on the heads of people, revealing their lifelines, have been executed in a good way.

Kushita Kallapu is a very good actress and looks beautiful in the setup. Her chemistry with Raj Tarun is also very good, but sadly, the love track does not bring much depth to the film. Tasty Teja and a few others from the comedy show Jabardasth provide a few laughs. Raja Ravindra, as the main villain, is decent.

The production values of the film are not that great, as the low quality is clearly visible. The background score is not that great and sounds a bit odd in places. The editing is bad in the first half, and so is the production design. But the dialogues are fine, as a few comedy punches work well in the film.

Chiranjeeva is a simple film that has an interesting story. But it is the narrative that does not make you sit through. There are a few thrills and comedy scenes that click, but apart from that, there is nothing novel showcased here.

Chiranjeeva Verdict

On the whole, Chiranjeeva is a comedy caper that is predictable and flat for the most part. If you are one of those who like such over-the-top comedies, stream the film on here on OTTplay Premium.
