Review:
Elite Short Stories: Phillipe Caye Felipe is the first instalment of Elite Short Stories 2. The Spanish teen series created by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona makes for an interesting watch, especially because of the way it is presented. The mini-series, released on Netflix recently, is a three-episode story with each episode about 10 minutes duration.
The story follows Cayetana after she breaks up with her rich spoilt boyfriend Phillipe. She takes up volunteering at a clothes donation programme where she meets Felipe. The two immediately develop a liking to each other and start dating, only to be interrupted by the re-entry of her ex Phillipe. Cayetana is then seen struggling to convince the two that she has moved on. But her act does not seem convincing to Felipe and he later, asks her to go back to her 'prince' and only come back if she believes it herself that she does not have feelings for him. Cayetana's act as she tries to convince everyone that Phillipe is no more in her life is not convincing even to the audience though.
The mini-series shares some major relationship lessons as Phillipe learns the meaning of a no and Cayetana tries to discover herself. The character arcs of all three are commendable. The three main characters, including Phillipe, learn to respect one other and not to take undue advantage of the situation. The series does set a trademark in fashion as well. Phillipe's dressing sense is outlandish with bright colour long jackets and jewellery, making you sometimes wonder if he is gay due to certain stereotypes associated with the community.
The drama is happening and gives you a few chuckles and innocent smiles. What is even more interesting about the new series is the packaging and the way the story is told. Even though the story is the continuation of Season 4 of Elite, a viewer can start watching from this part of Elite Short Stories too as it is easy to get a grasp of whatever has had happened until now. The writing is commendable and so are the performances.
Verdict:
The way the story is told in a snackable way is impressive. It is a definite watch.
