Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge Of The Scar review: This live action film leaves you intrigued and frustrated

Story:

Edward Elric and Al try to steer clear of Scar, who wants to eliminate everyone from Amestris. However, he has no intention of staying away. Will Scar find his revenge or will Elric be able to use alchemy in order to protect everyone, including himself?

Review:

A magician has many tricks up his sleeve but he might only win with someone blessed with true power. Scar, who was one of the most feared in the manga and the anime, is back as the antagonist this time. He was the most feared in the manga because of his backstory and even when you get to know his side of the story, Scar has been doing the right thing. The only problem is, killing is never the right thing.

Edward Elric and Al are as hilarious as always. Envy is back too and is not scary but heartwarming this time. Flame alchemist Colonel Roy Mustang makes quite an entry. Alex Armstrong leaves little impression but then again, this character was always the quirky one.

While the makers have mostly kept the story from the manga intact, they have also added new elements for fun and it more or less helps the story. Thankfully, many-a-times, it only enhances the story.

Ryosuke Yamada as Edward Elric is fun to watch even if he's not perfect. The actor who nails his role is Dean Fujioga as Roy Mustang.

The film suffers from lack of continuity. In order to end the scenes on a hilarious note, the makers fail to keep the story in the same flow.

The moment Elric and Scar clash though, is grand and so worth it. However, there is something more in the store and you have to wait for it till the very last scene.

Another difference between the anime and live action is that the anime focused on taking the story forward in a realistic manner. It focused on the action. Meanwhile, the film is more about drama. It manages to touch the right chords though, by telling the story of brotherly love, which is what Fullmetal Alchemist is at the end of the day.

Before you realize it, the movie turns into something more. It promises to solve the mysteries that have been luring around since a long and leaves you hanging by the thread.

Verdict:

All manga and anime fans know how live action adaptations are not the best thing out there. Thus, expectations from such genre are anyway low. A few, however, manage to stay afloat and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Revenge Of The Scar is one such story. It does not make you love live action but it doesn't make you want to kill yourself either. In fact, this one leaves you intrigued as well for what will happen when Elric finds a way to make his nemesis his enemy again.
