Funky Story

Komal (Vishwak Sen) is a director whose film gets stalled due to budget issues. The producer’s daughter, Chitra (Kayadu Lohar), takes responsibility for completing the project. However, she has several ego clashes with Komal. How she resolves these issues and helps complete the film forms the core of Funky's story.

Funky Review

Funky is written and directed by Anudeep of Jathi Ratnalu and Prince fame. He is known for his unique comedy style and punchy one-liners. This time, he chooses a story about a struggling film director and blends it with a love story.

However, there is hardly any strong conflict or emotional depth. The film runs mostly on gags and one-liners. While a few jokes land well, many fail to create the desired impact.

If you watch the film scene by scene, it seems entertaining, but as a whole, it lacks seriousness and emotional engagement. The emotional thread is weak and fails to connect.

The first half is filled with silly moments, with the hero mostly cracking jokes without any substantial character development. The villain track is over-the-top and adds little value.

The second half is slightly better but comes a bit too late. One of the biggest drawbacks is the weak screenplay. There was ample scope for comedy, but the writing does not fully utilize it.

The chemistry between Vishwak Sen and Kayadu Lohar is pleasant, and they look good together. However, their romantic angle needed more depth.

Performance-wise, Vishwak Sen is good and maintains a controlled comic tone. However, his character lacks strong writing. Kayadu Lohar stands out with her screen presence and confident performance.

Naresh and Eeswari Rao are decent, while Sampath Raj’s role feels exaggerated. The production values are good, and Bheems Ceciroleo's songs are enjoyable. However, the editing is patchy, and the climax feels rushed.

As stated, the editing is quite poor and does not make sense in many scenes. The production design is decent, but the way the climax is handled is not very effective and ends the film in a rushed manner.

Funky could have been an entertaining film, but it is spoiled by flimsy writing and over-the-top narration, leaving it in no man’s land. Vishwak Sen’s search for a hit continues.

Funky Verdict

On the whole, Funky is a silly, over-the-top comedy that offers only a few genuine laughs. Weak emotions and uneven narration make it a below-par watch this weekend.
