I Used To Go Here is about Kate's romance with Carbondale, not about laughing at the expense of her life complications.

What's it about:
I Used To Go Here explores the life of Kate (Gillian Jacobs) and while doing so, simplifies her complicated life.
What's hot:
Kate and Laura (Zoe Chao)'s friendship is very beautifully explained in the film. Laura stands for Kate through thick and thin while Kate would be her strongest support ever.
Another aspect of the film which is likely to win your heart, is how it provides Kate an opportunity to romanticize life. Despite being a failure, not only does Kate accept who she is and takes control over that, she also isn't afraid of feeling a certain way and opening up about it.
What's not:
The supporting characters are built in a very hurried manner. The only strong supporting lead is April, played by Hannah Marks and unfortunately, she too has very little screen time in the film. Emma (Khloe Janel), Tall Brandon (Brandon Daley) and Elliot (Rammel Chan) make you smile from time-to-time but since they have a limited role, there isn't much to explore with them either.
Josh Wiggins, in the role of Hugo, is just a pretty face who isn't exactly ready to face the reality. Jemaine Clement as David has an air of mystery around him but that too isn't enough to keep you hooked to his story. Fortunately, the film focuses on Kate and she is bearable to a great extent.
Verdict:
I Used To Go Here is about Kate's romance with Carbondale in Illinois. The story does not have any more depth or comical moments (despite being tagged a comedy) so there is no point in trying to find one. However, since it is a feel-good film, you could go ahead and watch it at least once.
