Lovely Story: In search of a better life, Bony intends to move to Canada. However, he is forced to take up a job in the government sector. Bony gets into a problem for an odd reason within the first week of joining and is placed on 14 days of remand in jail. 'Lovely', a talking fly, becomes Bony's friend throughout his time in the sub-jail, altering his life for ever.
Lovely Review: It is evident that Dileesh Karunakaran, who co-wrote the screenplays for a number of highly acclaimed films, such as Salt N' Pepper, Idukki Gold, and Mayaanadhi, has done little to give the viewers a satisfactory cinematic experience with his sophomore directorial. Despite the promising narrative and picturesque setting, the film lacks impact due to its long dramatic scenes that rarely make sense.
Bony plans to relocate to Canada in pursuit of a better life. He must, however, accept a position in the government sector, where his father passed away while on duties. Bony is put on 14 days of custody in jail after allegedly "outraging the modesty of a woman" during the first week of joining. During his stay in the sub-jail, Bony befriends a talking fly named "Lovely," and even after being released from prison, he insists on staying with her. Their bond, which obviously no one else in his life understands, is the primary theme of the film.
Dileesh's efforts to give the fantasy components their best shot are an appealing feature of Lovely. The 'talking fly' and Bony's lucid dreams are both visually put forth in a picturesque and compelling way, utilising his animation skill. The musical score by Vishnu Vijay and Bijibal complements the film, which is deficient in every other way. The filmmakers' decision to keep the movie inside two hours without overly boring the viewers is another positive move. Additionally, they were able to capture some beautiful shots of Maniyanthuruthu, a hilly town.
While the rest of the actors does not leave an impact or add any humorous or sentimental aspects to the film, Bromance star Mathew Thomas has managed to give an adequate performance. Lovely's voice actor, Sivaangi Krishnakumar, is entertaining to watch as she frequently incorporates her actual speaking style into the role. Baburaj and Manoj K Jayan disappoint audiences who might have expected them to bring in humorous moments to the film.
Lovely Verdict: Those who anticipate an appealing fantasy movie to enjoy in theatres, at least for a one-time watch, will be underwhelmed by the Mathew Thomas-starrer.
