Story:

Episode 8 of the series, My Liberation Notes, is more about Gi-jeong and Tae-hun, who is back from his vacation. Gi-jeong confesses her feeling to Tae-hun and being dramatic that she is, she doesn't face rejection well and ends up hurting herself. Meanwhile, Mi-jeong's colleagues suspect that she has a boyfriend and Mi-jeong admits it's Mr Gu who used to make her uncomfortable by having dinner at her house.

Review:

The new episode focuses on Gi-jeong and her growing fondness for Tae-hun. She is convinced that he has a liking for her. She is overjoyed when he requests her to buy her a vinyl record of his favourite music as only a few limited editions were available and that too in Sanpo, where she lives. Tae-hun promises to treat her to lunch and she considers it a date. She goes to a parlour and grooms herself and also readies a plan B in case he rejects her.

The sequence of the events is planned quite well in the episode. Gi-jeong's plan in case she gets rejected is not revealed until it actually takes place and when it does, it shocks you. The extent she can go to impress someone appears desperate and sad. Her character can be sometimes a little annoying as she is overdramatic and seems always desperate for some kind of approval and validation from a man. Her plan B does not go as per the plan and she hurts herself very badly and though sad, it kind of makes you laugh as well. Her brother and his friend who support her in her plan are also seen laughing at her, reminding you of your 'evil' sibling.

Meanwhile, Mi-jeong's colleagues suspect that she has a boyfriend and Mi-jeong admits it's Mr Gu who used to make her uncomfortable by having dinner at her house. Mr Gu waits for Mi-jeong at the convenience store until she arrives. The way she knew he would be waiting for her there even though she got late from work seemed more telepathic. For the first time, Mr Gu is seen not buying alcohol, which leaves even the store owner shocked. He seems to be changing, being in a relationship. They have a plaful moment when they walk home together and Mi-jeong is seen praising Mr Gu. He asks if she is worshipping him and she shyly admits yes. They smile at each other.

A bit more about Mr Gu's past is revealed. His past associates find him and he gets a call from his brother who warns him about it. He asks him to go hit them first but Mr Gu says he will act on it later. He seems to have been associated with some kind of shady underworld business and is probably looking for a chance to leave it far behind him.

The latest episode ends with everyone looking all hopeful as they stare at a rainbow in the sky. Mi-jeong is sitting on the porch outside Mr Gu's house with him. She says she wishes she could be sitting with Gu's younger self and his 90-year-old self will be thinking the same. Tae-hun is also staring at the rainbow as he gets out of his car with his daughter parallelly as Gi-jeong, giving viewers a hope that they might get together and that they are meant for each other. After all, Tae-hun could not really respond to Gi-jeong's proposal. He just seems to be taken aback by her out-of-the-blue proposal.

Verdict:

For the first time so far in the story, do the characters all look hopeful.
