Review:
Directed by debutant Anand Krishna Raj, R J Madonna is constructed with a twisted storyline. While giving an altogether experience of a survival thriller, the movie sows seeds to a mystery as well. The plot, following a young RJ and actress Meghna (played by Amalendu K Raj) and some unexpected events she encounters at an unfamiliar house, is not very new to the genre. The concept of the protagonist’s acquaintance with a stranger in the house and following incidents are also not very fresh for the audience who have experienced a survival thriller before. The movie also lags in between the incidents, unnecessarily dragging without taking the narrative ahead. But the climax is sure to leave you puzzled, as it would make anyone rethink the storyline once again to connect all the dots.
The movie that doesn’t change its tone for almost the whole time, suddenly offers a different turn towards the end. It actually makes the audience question reality and fiction, leaving them confused about the plot, story, and reality. The movie’s tagline reading ‘A stolen biopic’ comes to the light here to add more to the complexity, which would demand us to have a thorough examination to understand the plot twist. The film beautifully leaves several clues from the beginning which one may have overlooked until the climax. It leaves an impact even after it ends, making you wonder where the movie leads you in terms of blending reality with fiction. It would also make you think that you are in a loop of events, which is not decipherable.
The protagonist is the main element where the movie gains points. Besides perfecting her role, the actress has also proven herself to be promising. Though the dialogue delivery seems artificial at times, Amalendu has scored high with her accurate portrayal of emotions through her facial expressions. The male protagonist Anil Anto has levelled up to her performance as well, which makes them look equally powerful on the screen. The supporting actors, who are very few, have also managed to pull a decent job.
The technical side of the movie is the other element that makes it worth a watch. The cinematography and direction are brilliant with very well thoughtful shots. Without any goofy background score or gothic tunes, the movie articulates the thrilling scenes well, where the actors and cameraman seem to have worked amazingly together.
Verdict:
The movie is worth a watch for the ones who love mystery thrillers. The impact remains even after a watch as it will get you to ponder upon the storyline and if you should give it a second watch.
