Santhana Prapthirasthu Review: Chandini Chowdary's film is a fun take on a sensitive topic but missing the emotional punch

Chaitanya (Vikranth) is a software engineer who falls for Kalyani (Chandini Chowdary) and marries her against her father Shankar Rao’s (Muralidhar Goud) will. This does not go well with Shankar Rao, and he plans to get his daughter divorced. On the other hand, Chaitanya comes to know that his sperm count is low, and he may have multiple issues with getting his wife pregnant. The rest of the story is about how Chaitanya handles his health issues, hides things from his wife, and also faces the wrath of his father-in-law.
Santhana Prapthirasthu is written and directed by Sanjeev Reddy and tells the life of a software engineer who has a low sperm count. But to establish this aspect, the director uses the entire first half to reveal the love story and the issues between the hero and his father-in-law.
It is only ten minutes before the interval that Santhana Prapthirasthu becomes quite interesting, with the director nicely bringing in the sperm count issue. This aspect is itself bold, and not many have touched it in Tollywood. The manner in which director Sanjeev Reddy tells the story with a pinch of humor is quite good in the film.
The second half works for the most part, as the heroine's perspective, who is stuck between her husband and her father, is handled quite well by the director. Yet another aspect that has been showcased well is how corporate life is taking a toll on everyone's health.

The makers have showcased the concept of low sperm count in a more fun way to make things engaging for the audience. What happens at such times is that the pain and emotions that the person goes through in such situations are not showcased properly. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of the film and lets things down in the second half. Had the grip on the emotions been even more solid, the output would have been even better.
Coming to the performances, Chandini Chowdary is the star of the show and gives a superb performance. Post the success of Colour Photo, Chandini Chowdary is getting good roles, and Santhana Prapthirasthu is one of them. Chandini, as the one stuck between her father and husband, is very good and has given an emotional performance.
Virkanth plays the main lead, and he looks a bit inexperienced in the setup. One also gets a feeling that a more popular actor would have taken the film to another level. Though he gives his best, the lack of bringing pain to the proceedings is not handled well by the actor.

Muralidhar Goud is a seasoned actor, and he, as the cunning father-in-law, does so well. His diction and the way he tries to bring a fun element are good to see in the film.
The production values of the film are pretty good, and so are the dialogues. The editing is bad in the first half, and the screenplay works only in parts in the second. Santhana Prapthirasthu has a decent storyline and is told in a funny way. While the comedy clicks, the emotions go for a toss and end the film in a hurry.
On the whole, Santhana Prapthirasthu is a new-age family drama that deals with a husband's low sperm count. This tricky aspect is told in a fun way for the most part, but when the seriousness is needed the most through emotions, things go amiss and make this film an average affair this weekend.
