Shava Ni Girdhari Lal review: Gippy Grewal goes no filter in his directorial film

Story:

A no-filter man named Girdhari Lal (Gippy Grewal) leaves on a search for his potential bride. He meets various women in his journey but who will Girdhari pick?

Review:

Shava Ni Girdhari Lal is your typical Punjabi film. It is filled with punchlines but this time around, the main lead Girdhari Lal (Gippy Grewal) has no filter.

He tries to look sweet but ends up looking slightly creepy. However, that is what the character requires. Like we mentioned, he has no filter. There is also some innocence in his character.

His obsession with girls is a little too much. He often gets into trouble because of that but doesn't improve, which makes it a tad bit irritating. Later, the film explores why he is the way he is. Gippy should be credited as a director for bringing that forward, even if it comes late in the film.

Soon after that, we meet Himanshi Khurana. Since Gippy narrates the scene in between her dialogues, there is an overlap and thus, it creates confusion. We meet Neeru Bajwa, Yami Gautam and Sara Gurpal as well in the scene.

The editing of scenes is quite clear. It does not go in one stretch but thankfully, it doesn't affect the story as much.

The no-filter personality of Girdhari Lal (Gippy) becomes hilarious in many scenes. The music helps even there. The movie just appears to be a stretch of stand-up comedies one after the other.

Himanshi makes a real entry and it is filled with romance. The music enhances the scene to the next level. Soon after, Sara also makes an entry and looks adorable.

Girdhari's romance with both Himanshi and Sara begins simultaneously. As expected from his behaviour, it ends just as soon as it begins.

Thereafter, we meet Payal Rajput and witness her romance with Gippy. She is not who she looks like and plays a big role in bringing a twist to the story.

Even though Girdhari manages to make death hilarious, it is not something that people should be proud of.

Prabh Grewal as Kuljeet has a song dedicated to her. The whole scene tries to be funny but is again too much to handle. That is when Gurpreet Ghuggi makes an entry. Known for comedy, he plays the opposite in the film. His character is serious and he acts intensely, especially in the scene with Neeru and Gippy together. The scene becomes intense not only for Gurpreet but also Gippy.

Soon, Surilie Gautam makes an entry but surprisingly, Girdhari shows lesser interest in her than the previous girls. Neeru Bajwa enters the story soon after as Shaamo. Thankfully, Girdhari doesn't enter the scene. When he does, surprisingly, he isn't creepy. Instead, Shaamo and Girdhari look adorable together.

Yami Gautam, who makes her comeback to the Punjabi movies after a decade, leaves a beautiful impression as Mannat. Even in a cameo, she makes a bigger impression than any other girl.

The last monologue in the film wraps up what the movie is about very well. While Shava Ni Girdhari Lal tries to convey a message, it succeeds in doing so only partially.

Verdict:

Shava Ni Girdhari Lal is made specifically keeping the Punjabi males in mind. It is not as effective as it should have been. The film does try to entertain and convey a message. So, if you want to watch the movie, watch it because of the efforts that all the actors and especially Gippy have put in the movie.
