Review: When a show resorts to a musical episode there must be some serious case of writers’ block. Why else would you waste an episode in a show that gets only 10 per season when it is so close to the finale? Well, Snowpiercer didn’t exactly go all song-and-dance, although I half expected it when Layton said he was a dancer.

This was a dream sequence that got the cast to dress up and do a bit of pretend play, all set in sepia. It was also a strange way for Layton, who is in a coma, after his Old Ivan’s way duel with Pike, to realize the folly of his New Eden vision. It is all playing out in his head, you see, and the only other person who knew the absolute truth – Pike – is no more. Will Layton wake up all remorseful and course-correct Snowpiercer? Well, we do not know just yet, although wake up he did, just in time for Wilford’s big discovery that Melanie may, after all, still be alive.

Season 3 Episode 7, honestly, felt like a big waste of time. You know an episode is bad when you watch it at 1.5x speed just to get it over with. The less painful it is the better, right? This week, the art and costume department got some extra work, but then there’s only so much you can do to a train. Besides that, there was nothing propelling the story ahead. When will we finally know the truth about Asha? Is Melanie really alive? How will the citizens react to Layton’s big lie? So much to say and so little time ahead.

Verdict: If you haven’t seen this one yet, skip right ahead to the next one. You aren’t missing much.
