Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes Story

A young woman named Mary is brutally murdered in Vizag. The cops find it hard to solve the case. One of the cops comes up with an idea that a local detective from Srikakulam, Sherlock Holmes (Vennela Kishore) is the best man to solve the case. Sherlock is assigned the job and he finds out that there are seven suspects in the murder case. How a funny local detective traces these seven suspects and nabs the killer is the basic story of the film.

Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes Review:

Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes is written and directed by Mohan, marking his debut as a director. He crafts a murder mystery set in a quirky world, centered around a local detective played by Vennela Kishore. Although the plot sounds intriguing, Mohan’s narration falls short. The film takes too long to establish itself, making the initial portions rather dull.

Things pick up with the entry of Vennela Kishore, whose screen presence adds some life to the proceedings. However, for any thriller to succeed, it must deliver engaging twists that hold the audience’s attention. Unfortunately, this film lacks that element, as the identity of the killer is too predictable. Additionally, the storyline feels silly at times, causing the thriller to lose focus in the first half.

The second half improves slightly, becoming more engaging. The scenes revealing the murder twist are decent. The sequence involving the seven suspects, presented one after the other, is visually appealing but unnecessarily drawn out in an attempt to create suspense.

One of the film’s major flaws is the lack of a gripping screenplay. There’s little innovation, and the routine narration combined with a weak screenplay prevents the film from standing out.

In terms of performances, Vennela Kishore shines as Sherlock. His portrayal of the Srikakulam accent is spot-on, and he maintains a balanced performance without going over the top. While his antics may seem odd in the first half, the director ties them together well by the climax.

Ananya Nagalla continues to improve with each project and delivers a strong performance in Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes. Her character carries two shades, and she handles both convincingly. If she continues to choose roles like this, she is likely to have a successful career.

Supporting actors Anish Kuruvilla, Prabhakar, and Ravi Teja perform their roles well. Sunil Kashyap’s music leaves little impact, but his background score stands out. Mallikarjun Naragani’s cinematography elevates the low-budget film, making it visually appealing.

While the production values are decent, the dubbing falls short, and the sound design is underwhelming. However, the production design and overall thriller aesthetic are commendable.

Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes is a detective thriller with a few bright spots, but the lackluster narration and underwhelming twists weigh it down. The slow-paced storytelling dilutes audience engagement, resulting in a thriller that feels more average than exciting.

Srikaukalm Sherlock Holmes Verdict:

On the whole, Srikaukalm Sherlock Holmes is only watchable thanks to the sincere performance of Ananya Nagalla and Vennela Kishore. The rest of the proceedings are ordinary and do not showcase anything interesting. Give it a shot when the film lands on OTT.
