Stand By Me Doraemon 2 movie review: Nobita’s journey tends to get monotonous and lesser impactful from the first

The story of Stand By Me Doraemon 2 is way too done-and-dusted. It fails to bring back the magic of the first installment of the film either.

Story:

Nobita gets ready for his big day but he isn’t still ready to embrace the moment. Thus, he embarks on a new journey with Doraemon.

Review:

Nobita's equation with his bullies-turned-friends Gian and Suneo has changed drastically and that story has been told in the first scene itself. There is a cute flashback from the first installment, which only adds to the already heartwarming scene.

A hilarious incident occurs. It is followed by mysterious events that make you question many things. These questions get answered slowly, as the film progresses.

The time travel element is there in this franchise film too but there's a twist you barely saw coming. It is the most aww moment in the franchise so far. Other moments from the first installment play in flashbacks too but this time, they become clearer.

Nobita's wedding day is here. It is a journey in itself. Soon, there's more turn of mysterious events thanks to all the gadgets Doraemon carries with him.

The second installment turns more complicated which doesn't really work in the favour of the film. Nobita is a weak character anyway and dealing with two of him time-and-again gets a little bit to the nerves.

Doraemon is adorable and a true friend in this installment. He saves Nobita out of friendship this time around, which makes the story more genuine.

However, the story itself is a typical drama, unlike the first installment. If the first showed Nobita as genuinely goofy and good-for-nothing, this installment film is all about him getting in trouble and out of it. It is such a done-and-dusted storyline that nothing can make you excited about the plotline.

Gian is a hilarious character this time around. Even though he still picks on Nobita, he has traits that are more human and real than Nobita's sob-turned-happy story.

The movie has a fitting ending. Doraemon, of course, is at the centre of it and he is the cutest as always.

PS: Do not miss the post-credits if you are a fan of J-Pop. Aarigaato (Thank you) is the track and it wraps up the story on a beautiful note.

Verdict:

Go watch Doraemon Stand By Me: Part 1. That was actually built on a good story and managed to bring out the real emotions from people.
