Telusu Kada Story

Varun (Siddhu Jonnalagadda) goes through a bad breakup and decides to tie the knot and settle down. He marries Anjali (Raashii Khanna), and to his bad luck, he comes to know that she cannot become a mother. However, Anjali does not give up hope and decides to try surrogacy, convincing a doctor named Raaga (Srinidhi Shetty) to help her. The twist in the tale is that Raaga is none other than Varun's ex-girlfriend. The rest of the story is about how the tricky situation is handled by Varun and the other two women.

Telusu Kada Review

Telusu Kada marks the directorial debut of stylist Neeraja Kona, and she has taken the subject of surrogacy and set it amidst an urban backdrop. This aspect is quite new to Telugu cinema and has not been tried before, which itself makes Telusu Kada special in the first place.

Having said that, the execution is not that great in the second half. The first half effectively portrays the breakup of Siddhu's marriage and his struggles to start a family. Additionally, the concept of surrogacy is introduced without any issues.

All these aspects make the first half end on a thumping note. But it is the second half that goes haywire with a lack of proper clarity. One gets a feeling that the hero's character is negative as he behaves in a weird manner with the two ladies. He is not fully committed to his wife or his girlfriend, though he is clear in his mind. This takes away the emotional angle a bit in the latter half.

Neeraja Kona takes a leaf out of Salman Khan's Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, which also dealt with the concept of surrogacy. Here in Telusu Kada, she makes key changes and adds Telugu nativity. The film has decent moments in the second half, and the scenes related to the hero's breakup at the beginning have been showcased quite well.

The best part of Telusu Kada is that director Neeraja Kona does not take any sides and gives equal importance to all the characters. While watching the film, the audience has many doubts, and all those are cleared through the character of Viva Harsha, who plays the hero's friend and goes through the same emotions as the audience.

Coming to the performances, Siddhu Jonnalagadda loses his comedy-hero tag and delivers a fine performance. It is only because of him that the film gets interesting. The way he has played his character showcases that he can pull off any role with ease.

But the best role in the film is that of Raashii Khanna, who plays Anjali. She has so much to showcase, and the experienced actress gives a fine performance. All her scenes with Siddhu Jonnalagadda in the second half are very good.

Srinidhi Shetty gets an intense role and does well, but at the same time, one also feels that her role has not been executed properly. Her character lacks clarity in the second half and does not get to do much. Thaman has composed the music, and all his songs have been placed well in the setup. Even his background score creates an impact in the proceedings.

The production values are top-notch, as the production design is stylish and gives the film a new-age look. The dialogues, lyrics, and editing are neat. Telusu Kada is a modern romantic drama that takes a bold approach. It is not for the regular masses, as the concept is quite different and does not land that easily. But for those who like unique love stories, they can give this film a shot.

Telusu Kada Verdict

On the whole, Telusu Kada is a new-age romantic drama that has a very interesting plot and is narrated well for the most part. But it is the latter part that struggles to put its point across and makes this a film with limited appeal.
