Story:

Suhani Gujaral gets charged for the murder of her husband Sahil Gujaral. She claims that she is innocent and her husband is still alive, while before proving anything, she gets shot dead soon after getting out of jail on bail.

Review:

The whole fiasco in this whodunit began in 2020 during the pandemic. According to the story, Sahil Gujaral (Ankur Mathur) died during the lockdown and at the end of the first season, Suhani Gujaral (Shriya Pilgaonkar) got arrested for the murder of her husband, little did the police know the husband was still alive and conned them and the world for a big scam. Due to this major cliffhanger in this crime drama, the viewers have been eager to watch the thrilling second season and they haven't been disappointed.

The brand new instalment begins with Suhani getting out of jail on bail and challenging the world that she'll prove Sahil is alive. However, not much later, the wife dies and the real investigation begins on the Gujaral family as they went to meet Suhani a few hours ago before her death. Rajeev (Pankaj Kapoor), Suneeta (Rukhsar Rehman) and Amara (Shweta Tripathi) get investigated by the CBI officer (Halreen Sethi). This is where the show starts getting interesting, however, a little confusing as well, which is what the whodunit moto is.

According to the story, the pandemic is still going on, so everyone in the series will be seen wearing masks from time to time. Though it has been already unveiled to the audience that Sahil is alive, the focus is now shifted to the fresh murder. I being a big crime-thriller fan started suspecting every main character to be the murderer, even the girlfriend of the CBI officer.

However, the angle of a senior female gay officer having a girlfriend reminded me of the same pitch in the Madhuri Dixit starrer The Fame Game on Netflix. Although, it seemed a highly unnecessary move by the writers of The Gone Game 2.

A few more unimportant appearances took me by surprise such as Indraneil Sengupta as Prateek Jindal and Dibyendu Bhattacharya as Subhash Chaudhary and Amara's hacker friend Sam, who doesn't show his face in the series at all. All of them together appear for a total of 10 minutes in a 5 episodic show.

Although Pankaj and Rukhsar played their roles well in the first season, the graphs of their characters remain the same, while Shweta, Harleen and Shriya are the three surprise packages. Not only their characters but they as actors were also seen taking a fresh take on the show.

Without many spoilers! Shweta, who was seen all goody-good in the first part showcases her real face and the facade behind her cute-adorable character, while Harleen and Shriya have emerged as geniuses in The Gone Game 2.

Meanwhile, unlike in the last instalment, Sahil gets to move places to places a lot in this season to prove to the world that he is indeed dead. The one and the most important thing Ankur has done in the latest part is he has kept his look and body language true to his character.

Even though the end has been a big shocker, the second season of this small series seemed like a drag. It would have made much more sense to end the story series into one-part series.

Verdict:

Apart from a few scenes that drag and a few unnecessary characters, the show has managed to engage the audience well. The show is a good watch, especially its climax.
