The Orbital Children has all the tried-and-tested formulas but that is the problem with the series - that there is no originality.

Story:

Touya, born on the moon, gets roped in on a mission with humans to save the earthlings. From him despising humans to finding a traitor among the people he trusted, The Orbital Journey is a story taking place in space.

Review:

As soon as The Orbital Children commences, you know that the lead, Touya, is not from Earth and that the story itself is going to be set in space. It makes you want to know more about the story but do not make the mistake of expecting this series to be Cowboy Bebop because legendary shows have now become rare. Touya reveals himself to be born on moon and does not like humans from Earth or the concept of gravity as a whole. As soon as you see him, you know every part of him is pretentious.

While there is a lot of confusion and chaos in the beginning, it also becomes fun as Touya says he is missing out on fun, when it is a dangerous situation out there in space. Before you know it, the kids pull your attention to how they deal with a dangerous situation. Despite being at loggerheads with each other, they help each other out nonetheless.

Even though the series has many feel good factors, it has nothing new to offer in particular. The girl, as has become a norm with Netflix original anime, is shown as stupid while the man takes charge in all situations. It is not something that the otaku wish to watch and it is high time the makers understand that.

Nonetheless, The Orbital Children shows some promise through the mysteries they solve while in space. It has tried to add elements of suspense and thrill but not completely succeeded in sending the emotions across.

The Orbital Children tries to end on a hopeful note but there is practically nothing to capture your attention in this anime. Everything about the story is something you have seen in movies/other series since ages now.

Verdict:

It is better to skip this show since it doesn't offer anything new. On the contrary, it tries to degrade women and then make up for by showing a strong female character who is also not someone you want to be around. This poor making-up-for-the-mistake just appears to be a lame excuse for a badly-written script. Do not waste over three hours behind this show and go watch a movie instead, if you have that time at hand.
