Theatre - The Myth of Reality Story - On a secluded island, Meera and her mother live a calm and devoted routine without the use of technology or contemporary conveniences. However, a sudden event throws them into the harsh light of social media, upending their lives and beliefs.
Theatre - The Myth of Reality Review - Sajin Baabu's latest film raises substantial concerns regarding the significance of religion and science in the modern world. Although he effectively conveys the extremes of both viewpoints, audiences are left wondering how to strike a balance between them.
Meera and her mother live a tranquil life, spending their time gathering coconuts and other necessities to sell for a living on a remote island. The 'nagadevas' or serpent gods are the centre of their devotion, and their family has a long history of performing pujas and prayers to them. Soon after, Meera develops a rare skin condition that forces her to seek medical treatment at a city hospital for an expensive drug. This places the mother and daughter under the scrutiny of social media, where reality takes a backseat. Her mother, however, thinks that the curse of the snake deity is the cause of her illness. Will she be healed with the aid of her faith and divine intervention, or will science form the crux of the film?
In addition to challenging one's religiously based preconceptions, Sajin highlights several important issues, including the intricacies of our healthcare system, childhood abuse that causes lifelong trauma, the perks and drawbacks of social media, and how man has lost track of his traditional ways in pursuit of modern ease. Although Meera's family is shown as being well-known in Kerala for their ability to cure venomous illnesses and snake bites, the film makes it clearly apparent how power struggles, greed, and superstition ultimately led to their downfall.
Despite her strong religious convictions, Meera's mother recognises her daughter's physical needs without going overboard with our society's gender stereotypes, which is one of the positive aspects. The movie continues to show how our society still requires women to act in certain ways or to preserve their dignity for the 'good of their families', in spite of all the 'liberal' progress.
Rima Kallingal is flawless as Meera in Theatre, while Sarasa Balussery plays her mother, who evokes strong feelings of empathy in the audience. The rest of the cast does a good job as well. The screenplay by Sajin is brilliant, while the cinematography by Syamaprakash MS sets the ideal tone for the plot's development.
Theatre - The Myth of Reality Verdict - In this Sajin Babu-directed film, which examines the ephemeral nature of the barriers between belief and reality in the world around us, Rima Kallingal excels with her outstanding performance.
