What's it about:

The classic cat-and-mouse chase heads to New York. Tom and his frenemy Jerry are just trying to co-exist but as we all already know; it is tough for them to do so.

What's hot:

The iconic moments from Tom and Jerry's narrative are kept intact. Jerry outsmarts Tom every single time and while they are at each other's throats, both of them know that they need each other to live an adventurous life.

The storyline is pretty adorable. Tom and Jerry help save a wedding on more than one occasions. Although the two can be easily lured, they aren't as dumb to keep on trailing the path which leads to some bad circumstances.

Tom's enemy Spike and his lover Lola also put up good cameos. They are both fiery and smart creatures who you will want to see more of.

The set design, cinematography and direction deserve a special mention, for they play an equally important role in pivotal scenes. Whether it is Tom walking on a rope or them travelling in a car, it was shot in a way that would keep you interested in the scene.

What's not:

Tom and Jerry are shown around a subway tunnel, enjoying the streets of New York City. It is never too great to watch filmmakers trying to commercialize characters just for the sake of it. Sure, the cat and the mouse could explore the streets but they seem out of place amidst humans who do not bring as much spark to the story as Tom, Jerry and Spike.

Tom, Jerry, Spike and Lola are so good that every other human in Tom & Jerry fails to leave a mark no matter how hard he/she tries. In fact, even the elephants Malcolm and Cecil do not succeed too much at that.

Pallavi Sharda, who plays an Indian bride in the film, is good in her role. However, she suffers the fate of every other human in the story - who just couldn’t match up to Tom and Jerry. Yes, we are talking about Chloe Grace Moretz and Michael Pena too.

Verdict:

Tom & Jerry The Movie is a one-time watch. That too would be owing to the innocence of the cat and the mouse.
