Story:

Parna lives her dream after being married to Abhi. However, she also has to live through a nightmare after her MMS leaks. How will she take back control? Does she succeed? Uttoron (resurrection) explores those factors.

Review:

There is a saying that everybody stands by you during good times but only real people stand by you when you face tough times. As a human, you cry alone and are left to deal with your own problems. Uttoron explores all of these factors well.

The show commences in the past, from the time when Parna is on her honeymoon. Her love story will make you go aww. Soon, we are taken into the life she lived and is living, through the eyes of her husband and family. It starts off as a normal family drama and thus, your attention gets divided too easily. It is the last few seconds of the first episode that actually grab your attention.

Getting the driver's reaction is a welcomed move in the series. It shows how the men perceive women in society and how disrespect is normalized in the society till it happens to someone you love. While the driver's reaction is not what a modern man is expected to do, one man stands up for Parna through-and-through. This man, Nilarko, is to be lauded for staying strong during Parna's weak moments. He considers her family and does everything to bring justice to her, even when he isn't obligated to do so. He even helps Parna understand her real identity, which isn't based on a single video.

Parna's reaction on seeing the video and everything that happens after that might be dramatized but still manages to leave an impact. The fact that Parna cries for hours over taking revenge is understandable but might be too much. On the other hand, Parna's relationship with her mom is quite pure and adorable. It is scene through their phonic conversation.

Another aspect this series covers is defamation cases. We have seen so many people file defamation cases on each other in the past few years and there is a whole segment that exposes how this right can be misused in the society. The fact that people choose covering up over justice is sure to astonish you.

The interesting part of the story comes at a time when Parna has to face her reality and she does so with confidence which is admirable. She asks why can't she behave naturally which makes you question humanity or the lack of it in humans.

Parna even goes ahead and points out the difference in how a man is treated after an MMS leak and how, on the contrary, women are constantly looked down upon, sometimes even by other women. How she takes back control is worth watching. However, Madhumita Sarcar is not the perfect cast for the role.

The series succeeds in sending across the message, even if in a pretty dramatic way. The scene where Parna confronts her real self is quite powerful. She takes back her crown and walks out of the situation like a true queen, which is expected of a modern woman.

Uttoron inter-promotes Gora which is a smart move and a distraction from the depressing storyline. Thankfully though, the show does have a happy ending, one you can expect considering the storyline.

Verdict:

Uttoron is truly resurrected bit by bit. While Madhumita Sarcar is not the perfect fit for the role, the makers somehow manage to send the message across. It is not a series you should not miss watching but if you have nothing else do it, Uttoron surely is a fairly decent watch.
