Virgin Boys Story

Arya (Geeth Anand), Dundy (Sri Srihan), and Ronny (Ronith Reddy) are three close friends who enter a co-ed college where everyone’s already in a relationship. Desperate to lose their virginity by New Year’s Eve, their plans take a wild turn when Saryu (Mitra Sharma), Shlok (Anshula Dhawan), and Laila (Jennifer Emmanuel) enter their lives. Did they succeed or end up in chaos? That forms the rest of the story.

Virgin Boys Review

Adult comedies are quite rare in Telugu cinema, and not many take the risk to make such subjects. But times have changed now, as director Dayanand Gaddam has made an adult comedy titled Virgin Boys. Losing their virginity is a big thing for Indians, and how today's youth goes about it is showcased in Virgin Boys. Dayanand takes the route of comedy to show that losing virginity is no longer taboo and is quite common for today's youth.

To establish this aspect, he sets up the film around three close friends who are all virgins and are desperate to get naughty in life. Though the humor is good, the aspect of sex, how it is perceived by small-town youth, and the issues they face when they go to extremes are showcased in a very interesting manner. Such subjects have been explored a lot in Hindi, but for Telugu, Virgin Boys answers a lot of questions.

The best part of the film is that sex education is delivered in a fun way rather than by schooling the youth on what is right or wrong. To enhance the narration, director Dayanand creates many interesting characters from different walks of life. But the ones who get the loudest cheers are the three leads, who perform well, and the jokes they crack on themselves are hilarious in the setup.

Yet another interesting aspect is that the central challenge in the film is to make the boys lose their virginity. How they go about the challenge, whether they overcome all the conditions, and what happens to them in the end is showcased simply.

Having said all this, the emotional content in the film goes for a toss. Not that one expected it to be quite high, but the way certain moralistic points are narrated feels a bit over the top. Also, just to include more romance, the director goes overboard with too many bold scenes, which feel slightly out of place in the setup.

Additionally, the film takes forever to get into the main plot. The boring scenes related to the main leads and their urge to lose their virginity are rolled out repetitively, and things get interesting only 15 minutes before the interval. Also, the way a few female characters question basic societal norms feels a bit exaggerated in the climax.

Coming to the performances, young hero Geeth Anand is good in his role. Be it his looks, screen presence, or dances, the young actor does well in the film. Ronit Reddy is also neat and does a good job, especially in the emotional scenes. But the best of them all is Srihan, who performs extremely well. The way he takes jokes on himself and delivers comedy is showcased quite well.

Mithra Sharma gets the best role, and the way her character is treated in the story is good. The production values of the film are decent. Editing is not that great, as the film takes time to grow on you. The camerawork is pretty good, and the one-liners and cheesy dialogues are fun.

Virgin Boys is aimed at the youth and delivers what it promises. Had the emotional angle been better, the output would have been much stronger. Still, the youthful drama has enough eye candy for youngsters to savor.

Virgin Boys Verdict

On the whole, Virgin Boys is a passable adult comedy that delivers what it promises. Though the emotions do not strike much of a chord, the bold content stays on track and is aimed at the masses and youth who enjoy such films. A proper time-pass comedy.
