Homeland falls into the psychological, political thriller genre and follows a story based on the Israeli series, Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. Gideon Raff was also represented as an executive producer for Homeland. This American series stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis as the leads, where both the actors received applause and appreciation for the performance. However, the series received positive reviews due to its star cast and storyline it started garnering negative criticism as the season progressed. Even former US President Barack Obama had been reported as an admirer of this show. Homeland explores a CIA officer, Carrie Mathison(Claire), who has bipolar disorder and the events that follow next, after Nicholas Brody(Damian) gets captured by Al-Qaeda as a prisoner of war. This eight-season series have fallen into controversies, mostly due to their portrayal of Muslims. This show has been criticized and phrased as "the most Islamophobic show" and had been accused of executing misinterpretation of Islam and Arab culture. Homeland has been accused of racism as well as, for bridging the divide between two nations (the United States and Iran).
