Vishnu Vrat is a holy fast dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe. It is observed with devotion to seek peace, prosperity, protection from sins, and liberation (moksha). Among the most popular is Ekadashi Vrat, observed twice every month on the 11th lunar day, when devotees fast and chant Vishnu’s name. The vrat katha (story) tells of a king named Rukmangad, who strictly observed the Ekadashi fast. When tested by a demon who tried to tempt his family to break the fast, the king’s unshaken devotion pleased Lord Vishnu, who appeared and blessed his kingdom with peace and eternal protection. By observing Vishnu Vrat with faith—through fasting, prayers, Tulsi offerings, and reading scriptures like the Vishnu Sahasranama—devotees receive Lord Vishnu’s grace, removal of past sins, and fulfillment of both spiritual and worldly desires.
