President Droupadi Murmu expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women's cricket team following their historic victory in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Meeting the champions in the national capital, the President hailed their triumph as a “watershed moment” that will elevate women’s cricket to greater heights.

President Murmu said, “It gives me immense happiness to be among the world champions today. You all have created history by winning the Cricket World Cup. Heartiest congratulations to each one of you. Millions of Indians, both in the country and abroad, are celebrating your victory with great joy.”
Reflecting on the dramatic final played at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, the President recalled, “Last Sunday, when the final match was taking place, I was on a visit to Uttarakhand. After a long day of events that went on until late evening, I saw that the match had reached a decisive point. But I must tell you, even before the tournament began, I was confident that our daughters would become world champions this time.”
She praised the team’s determination against formidable opponents, noting, “When I learned that the final was being played in Mumbai and that you had already defeated Australia, the seven-time world champions, I was convinced that the daughters of India were in form and destined to win.”
The President’s remarks resonated with the widespread national pride and enthusiasm that has greeted the team’s first-ever World Cup title. India’s victory, a 52-run win over South Africa, marked a historic achievement for women’s cricket in the country, inspiring millions, especially young girls, to pursue their sporting dreams fearlessly.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the team, describing the win as “spectacular” and praising the players’ exceptional skill, teamwork, and tenacity. The President emphasized that the accomplishment would raise expectations and standards for women’s cricket in India, promising a bright future for the sport.
The players, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, were welcomed with immense fanfare and felicitations upon their return to Delhi. Their success has been heralded as a landmark moment that not only uplifts the team but also serves as a beacon of inspiration across the country.
