As the IPL 2026 mega auction draws closer, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might be gearing up for one of their most significant squad reshuffles in recent years. Former India opener Aakash Chopra has sparked discussions with his belief that CSK could release several key players to realign their strategy and open space for new signings. Known for their stability and loyalty towards core members, CSK may finally be ready to make some tough calls as they plan for the post-Dhoni era.

CSK may opt for a strategic reset

Chopra suggested that the five-time IPL champions could part ways with players who underperformed in the previous season, including names like Devon Conway and Rahul Tripathi. This, he noted, would allow the team to free up a significant portion of their purse, around ₹20–25 crore, to target impactful players in key areas such as the top order and death bowling.

He emphasized that CSK’s leadership group has always relied on experience and trust, but with the IPL evolving rapidly, a shift toward a younger and more dynamic lineup could be on the cards. The decision, Chopra explained, wouldn’t just be about performance but about balancing the long-term vision of the franchise.

CSK’s legacy, built on consistency under MS Dhoni, might soon enter a new phase. Whether it’s a strategic reset or a complete rebuild, their choices ahead of the IPL 2026 auction could determine how the Super Kings sustain their dominance in the coming seasons.

"They will have a long list of retentions. The release list is slightly shorter. So let's focus on that. One guy has already gone. He was a very expensive player, goes by the name of Ravichandran Ashwin. He releases ₹9.75 crore, and that, in my opinion, is a significant sum. Another player who is slightly expensive, and I feel the team will release him, and that's Devon Conway," said Aakash Chopra.
