On Tuesday, social media was buzzing with the like singer Asha Bhosle and former India cricketers such as Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman celebrating hurdler Jyothi Yarraji's victory. The celebrities had claimed that India's third gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou was won by the sprinter. Many politicians, bureaucrats, and other verified Twitter accounts also joined in to celebrate Yarraji's achievement.

However, it turned out that the celebrities celebrated a bit too early as Yarraji's event, the heats for the women's 100m hurdles, is scheduled for September 30 (6.45 AM IST), while the final will take place on October 1 (6.45 PM).

In fact, Yarraji only arrived in Hangzhou on Tuesday, as confirmed by her coach James Hillier, who posted an image of Yarraji, himself, and Amlan Borgohain (the country's fastest man) with the caption: "En route to Hangzhou for the Asian Games."

As for the video making the rounds on social media, it was from her win at the Asian Athletics Championships earlier this year.

"This gold medal is a true testament that dreams come true irrespective of circumstances. Way to go Jyothi Yaraaji," tweeted World Cup winner Gambhir.

"Heartiest congratulations to Yaraaji from Andhra Pradesh for winning the Gold for 100mts hurdles at the Asian Games," posted legendary singer Bhosle.

As for Team India, so far India has won three gold medals at Hangzhou 2023, the first coming from the Indian men's 10m rifle shooting team, the second coming via the women’s cricket team and the third being the Indian mixed team securing a gold medal in the Dressage team event of Equestrian.
