India's Rohan Bopanna is going on a steady pace along with his Australian partner, Matthew Ebden as they have advanced to the men's doubles quarterfinals at the Australian Open 2024. The Indo-Aussie pair secured a victory over the 14th-seeded Dutch-Croatian pair of Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic with a scoreline of 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-4) in an impressive hour and 43 minutes.

The match kept fans and spectators on the edge of their seats as they witnessed exceptional serving and precise volleys, and also saw the two sides not looking to back down. The first set saw a masterclass in service dominance, but Bopanna and Ebden's experience helped them, particularly during the tiebreak. While Koolhof and Mektic fought back in the second set and out on relentless pressure, that too concluded with a tiebreak.

Ultimately, the Dutch-Croatian pair lost to the persistent efforts of Bopanna and Ebden after a valiant display of skill and determination.

About Rohan Bopanna, the Indian had reached the mixed doubles final last year with the now-retired Sania Mirza. Now, he stands on the brink of a historic achievement. Having marked his 500th career win in professional tennis at the Australian Open 2024, he is eyeing another milestone in the quarter-finals.

After advancing to the quarter-finals, Rohan Bopanna is guaranteed to attain the World No. 2 ranking. This notable achievement awaits an update to the ATP rankings after the conclusion of the Australian Open 2024.

Interestingly, Bopanna and Ebden are the highest-seeded pair still in contention in the men's doubles competition. The man from Karnataka has yet to secure a men's doubles Grand Slam title, but with his current form, he could be leaving Melbourne with a trophy in hand.

In the quarter-final, Bopanna and Ebden will be facing the 6th-seeded duo of Gonzalez and Molteni from Argentina. The Argentinean pair won after a tough match against Jackson Withrow and Nathaniel Lammons, winning a thrilling three-set match in the third round at Melbourne Park.
