Jannik Sinner, the world No. 2, is currently chasing a historic third consecutive Australian Open title, a feat only ever achieved in the Open Era by the legendary Novak Djokovic. To get there, Sinner will have to face Aussie star James Duckworth.
Duckworth, at 33, is the definition of resilience. He’s coming off a gruelling, emotional five-set comeback against Dino Prizmic, his first five-set victory in a decade.
"It will be tough. He's obviously playing pretty well. He's pretty good in Australia," Duckworth joked, drawing laughs from the press.
"I beat him once before," Duckworth has already reminded Sinner about their past result.
Since late last year, Sinner has been nearly invincible, dropping only a single set in his last 16 matches. Perhaps even more intimidating for Duckworth is Sinner’s record against locals: he is unbeaten in 18 matches against opponents playing at their home Grand Slam.

On the women’s side, the focus shifts to power and consistency. Elena Rybakina, the 2023 finalist, is looking to erase the memory of past heartbreaks.
She will face France's Varvara Gracheva with a simple, almost zen-like philosophy: if the serve is working, the rest will follow. "No matter who is on the other side, if the serve is going, then it's perfect," she noted with a characteristic shrug of confidence.
Meanwhile, Jessica Pegula continues to be the "reliable engine" of American tennis. Scheduled to open play at Rod Laver Arena against McCartney Kessler, Pegula is hunting for her 17th Grand Slam third-round appearance.
Francesco Maestrelli will face Novak Djokovic, while Jaume Munar will look to book a place in the third round against a strong Casper Rudd.
In the Women's singles, Iga Swiatek will look to continue her strong form against a determined Marie Bouzkova at the John Cain Arena.
