A total of ten Indian badminton players, comprising four singles shuttlers and six doubles pairs, are set to participate in the upcoming BWF Badminton World Championships scheduled to be held from August 21 to August 28, 2023, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The draw for the World Championships is scheduled to take place on August 10, 2023.
Among the men's singles, HS Prannoy holds the ninth seed position. Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen is seeded eleventh. Former world number 1, Kidambi Srikanth, will be entering the tournament as an unseeded player.
Srikanth (silver) and Lakshya (bronze) have earned medals in previous World Championships. HS Prannoy has reached the quarterfinals in the past two editions and will be determined to progress further this time.
Notably, PV Sindhu holds the distinction of being India's most successful shuttler in the tournament's history across categories. With a total of five medals to her name, including a championship victory in 2019, she secured silver medals in 2017 and 2018.
She will stand as India's sole representative in the women's singles category after Saina Nehwal's withdrawal on July 29.
