Bails and Banter EP 4: Atul Wassan talks about MS Dhoni's importance and player-umpire relation in modern cricket

In this episode, former Indian veteran Atul Wassan highlighted the importance of one of the most successful Indian skippers, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He also pointed out how technology has impacted the role of cricket umpires on the field.

Atul Wassan hails MS Dhoni's cricketing legacy

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been one of the legendary figures in international cricket. His contributions as a captain and a player are regarded as priceless in Indian cricket. From winning three ICC trophies to becoming a five-time champion in franchise cricket is nothing less than a statement.

When asked about Dhoni's recent form as a batter and a skipper in the ongoing season, Atul Wassan said that Dhoni has proved himself on numerous occasions and that questioning his recent outings won't be justified. He mentioned Chennai has the most passionate fanbase just because of MS Dhoni. He further stated that franchise cricket won't be sustainable if internationally retired players stop participating in it.

Atul Wassan highlights degrading umpire's stature in modern cricket

There have been lots of instances in modern cricket when we see players arguing with umpires over a decision. Talking about it, Atul mentioned that technology has started to challenge the decisions taken by the umpire. He said that it is very sad to watch umpires folding their arms every time a decision is overturned.

Atul further mentioned that players arguing aggressively with umpires is the result of snatching powers from them. He said that nowadays an umpire cannot even give a no-ball on his own; earlier, players used to respect umpires because their decisions used to define match results.

Apart from this, Atul Wassan also discussed Yashasvi Jaiswal's role for the upcoming England tour and provided further insights about the Chennai vs Rajasthan clash.
