Indian cricket team is going through a phase where they are struggling to win matches against strong teams in Test cricket. Meanwhile, they are thriving in white-ball cricket. All of this is happening under the same head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He has received backlashes for reshuffling the playing XI, for not selecting the correct players, and many other things.

But, there are several reports pointing towards the removal of Gambhir from Test matches and appointing VVS Laxman as the new head coach of the Indian team in the specific format. Dismissing the reports, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that they aren't planning to include Laxman as head coach.

“This is totally incorrect news going on. This is totally speculative news. Some very reputed news agencies are also flashing the news. There is no truth to it. BCCI straight away denies. People can think all they want, but BCCI has not taken any steps. This is somebody's figment of imagination; there is no truth in it, and I cannot say anything except that this is factually incorrect and baseless news," as quoted by Devajit Saikia.

What is Gautam Gambhir's Test record as head coach?

Gautam Gambhir, India's head coach, has faced many criticism regarding the team's consistent failure in Test cricket. Overall, India have played in 19 matches and won just seven. This is one of the main reasons why fans and cricket experts have voiced their opinions against Gambhir as the coach. Meanwhile, the BCCI is in full support of the coach and his contract stays until ODI World Cup 2027.

India are falling behind in the World Test Championship (WTC) race, as they are in the sixth position now with just four wins in nine matches. They are far away from qualification and only winning all the matches from the WTC cycle will help them qualify for the finals. Hence, the upcoming matches are extremely crucial for India, the players and the head coach.
