Aishanya Dwivedi, the widow of Shubham Dwivedi, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, has strongly condemned the upcoming India-Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup 2025 scheduled for Sunday. She urged people to boycott the match and not to watch it even on television.

“Should not have accepted”

Dwivedi criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for agreeing to play against Pakistan, describing the decision as insensitive to the families of the 26 people who lost their lives in the attack. She accused the BCCI of lacking sentiment towards the victims' families and the martyrs of Operation Sindoor.

“BCCI should not have accepted a match between India and Pakistan...I think BCCI is not sentimental towards those 26 families...,” Aishanya Dwivedi said via a video posted by news agency ANI on X.

“What are cricketers doing?”

Dwivedi questioned the Indian cricket team's stance, lamenting that, except for one or two players, no cricketer stepped forward to call for a boycott of the match.

She said cricketers are regarded as nationalists and cricket is considered the national game, yet the players have not taken a firm stand for the country. She emphasized that BCCI cannot force players to play at gunpoint, urging them instead to take a principled stand.

“What are our cricketers doing? It is said that cricketers are nationalists. It is viewed as our national game. But except for 1-2 cricket players, nobody stepped forward to say that we should boycott the match against Pakistan. BCCI cannot make them play at gunpoint. They should take a stand for their country. But they are not doing it,” she went on to add.

Funds earned from this match might be used to fund terror by Pakistan

Furthermore, Aishanya Dwivedi raised concerns about the financial aspect, asking sponsors and broadcasters if their sense of nationality towards the 26 families had ended. She warned that the revenue from the match would be used by Pakistan to fund terrorism, describing Pakistan as a terrorist nation that would use the proceeds to prepare for future attacks on India.

“I would like to ask the sponsors and broadcasters if their nationality for those 26 families is finished?...What will the revenue from the match be used? Pakistan will use this just for terrorism...That is a terrorist nation...You will provide them revenue and prepare them to attack us once again. I cannot understand this...I urge people to boycott this. Do not go to watch this and do not switch on your TV for this...,” she expressed.
