In a heartwarming gesture, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has extended his congratulations to the young cricketing sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi after his blistering century for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 clash on April 28 in Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

The 14-year-old prodigy has created history by becoming the youngest player to score both a half-century and a century in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The player opened the innings for RR with Yashasvi Jaiswal alongside. Vaibhav stunned everyone with his dazzling knock of 101 in just 38 balls. He smashed 7 fours and 11 sixes and showcased clean striking capabilities with impressive shots all around the ground.

What made the moment even more special was the fact that Sooryavanshi’s roots trace back to Bihar, a state that has long awaited a national-level cricket icon. His meteoric rise has now become a source of pride and inspiration for millions back home.

Bihar CM announces INR 10 lakh cash prize for Vaibhav

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his pride in the young cricketer's achievement. Posting photographs of his meeting with Sooryavanshi and his father last year at 1 Anne Marg, Kumar expressed his admiration and announced a financial reward of ₹10 lakh on behalf of the state government. The politician stated:

“Congratulations and best wishes to Mr Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of the IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket on the strength of his hard work and talent. Everyone is proud of him,” Kumar wrote. He added that he had spoken to the young cricketer personally to extend his greetings and encourage him to continue striving for excellence.

Sooryavanshi’s debut season in the IPL had already shown glimpses of brilliance when he smashed a six off the first ball he faced and contributed a fiery 34 off 20 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants. However, his century against the Gujarat Titans marked a breakout performance, breaking the record for the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history and solidifying his position as a rising star in Indian cricket.
