Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Devdutt Padikkal has made his intentions clear ahead of IPL 2026, stating that competition within the squad is something he embraces rather than avoids. As RCB continue to assess their batting combinations, particularly in the top order, Padikkal’s comments reflect a player focused on preparation and adaptability rather than fixed roles.

The left-hander acknowledged that franchises like RCB often face tough selection calls due to squad depth, especially in high-impact positions such as No. 3. Instead of seeing this as pressure, Padikkal made matured comments on Venkatesh Iyer's inclusion in the team as well.

"Of course, if you are playing in the IPL, you are always bound to have competition. Venky is a great player and I have played a lot of matches with and against him. I am looking forward to having him in the side. Hopefully, we both can contribute to the team's success," he said on InsideSport's YouTube channel.
