South Africa's newest addition to the ODI team, Dewald Brevis, has already become quite famous for his stunning knock in the T20I series against Australia. After a successful T20I series, Brevis made his ODI debut against Australia in the first match on August 19. Playing in the middle order, he had a huge responsibility of helping the team score more runs.
The young batter slammed a huge six on the very first ball of his ODI career. Travis Head bowled a short ball, which was picked up well by the batter. However, the next delivery was a disaster as Head bowled full and wide. Brevis failed to understand the ball and hit it over long-on. Alex Carey was present at the long on and took the catch quite comfortably.
It was a forgettable outing for the young batter, who is quite famous for scoring runs in the middle overs. However, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming matches. The player has a great sense of game knowledge, which is why his recent performance has been stunning. Moreover, Head went on to take four wickets in the match.
South Africa's spin wizard Keshav Maharaj has been in incredible form as he claimed a fifer against the mighty Australians in their own home ground. He finished off the middle-order with his bowling, helping South Africa restrict the hosts to under 200 runs. The Proteas won by 98 runs, which is huge.
Despite captain Mitchell Marsh's desperate attempts to help the team, this is so far the biggest win by runs for South Africa against Australia in ODIs in Australia. Marsh scored 88 off 96 balls, including 10 boundaries. He did not get the support from the other end, which led to the team's defeat. South African bowlers were in sync during the match, trying to restrict the batters at every stage possible.
Now, the Proteas lead the 3-match ODI series, 1-0 in Australia. It will be interesting to see how the series unfolds and whether the home team will give a befitting answer to South Africa in the next games.
