With Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) storming into the IPL 2025 final after a stunning victory over Punjab Kings, the celebrations have already begun in Karnataka. But one fan from Belagavi has taken the excitement to a whole new level by formally requesting the state government to declare a public holiday if RCB lifts its maiden IPL trophy this season.

The handwritten letter, penned by ardent supporter Shivanand Mallannavar, was addressed to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. It has gone viral across social media platforms, stirring a wave of enthusiasm and debate among fans and citizens alike.

Mallannavar’s impassioned request goes beyond just a single day off. He has proposed that the day RCB wins the IPL (if it happens) be celebrated annually as the “RCB Fans’ Festival.” He even drew parallels with Karnataka Rajyotsava, suggesting that the celebration be adopted statewide in recognition of the emotional investment fans have made over the years.

“For more than a decade, RCB fans have endured heartbreak, stuck with the team through wins and losses, and continued to dream,” Mallannavar wrote. “If RCB finally wins, it should be more than just a sporting victory — it must be a festival for the people.”

He added that the day should be formally recognized every year to honor the unwavering loyalty of RCB fans across the globe.

What began as a personal appeal has now grown into a grassroots movement, with hashtags like #RCBFansFestival and #HolidayIfRCBWins trending across Karnataka. Fans have flooded X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and Facebook with support for the idea, posting memes, digital posters, and emotional tributes to the franchise.

While the state government has yet to issue a response, several political and public figures have acknowledged the letter, calling it a reflection of how deeply cricket is embedded in the state’s cultural identity.

RCB’s sensational entry into the final added weight to Mallannavar’s plea. In a dominant display at the New Chandigarh stadium, RCB dismantled Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1 with precision and flair.

Bowling first, RCB restricted PBKS to a paltry 101 runs in just 14.1 overs. The pace duo of Josh Hazlewood and Suyash Sharma led the charge, grabbing three wickets apiece. Support came from Yash Dayal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who kept the pressure high with timely breakthroughs.

The run chase was smooth sailing for RCB, despite the early dismissal of Virat Kohli, who fell to Kyle Jamieson. England’s Phil Salt took charge with a blistering 56 off 27 balls*, decorated with six boundaries and three towering sixes. Rajat Patidar closed out the match with a six, as RCB chased down the target in just 10 overs.
