Anshul Kamboj, who was initially sent back to India as Gautam Gambhir and management chose Harshit Rana over him, has now been called back amid the injury crisis.
The Haryana medium pacer has been one of the best pacers in domestic cricket for the last few seasons. Kamboj, who featured for CSK in the Indian Premier League 2025, can swing the ball both ways and extract seam movement.
The 24-year-old rose to fame when he took all ten wickets of an innings against Kerala in the 2024 Ranji Trophy. He is the third bowler to achieve the feat in Ranji Trophy history.
Till now, in 24 First-class matches, he has taken 79 wickets at an average of 22.88. Kamboj also picked up a five-wicket haul during India A's unofficial test match against England Lions, just before the test matches.

Akash Deep, who took ten wickets in India's historic test match victory at Edgbaston, could not contribute that much at Lord's.
As per the reports, the medium pacer has been facing a recurring back injury scare and needs rest to avoid that.
That is why the Indian team management has asked Anshul Kamboj to fly back to England for the rest of the test series.

Although there were rumours that star pacer Jasprit Bumrah would only play every alternate test match to stay fit, he is in contention to play the ENG vs IND, 4th Test in Manchester.
Bumrah, despite taking a five-wicket haul in the first inning and playing out 54 balls during the second inning, could not take India over the line at Lord's.
With India are now trailing by 1-2 in the Anderson-Tendulkar series, the team management is desperate to have the No.1 Test bowler in the World in action.

During the first inning of the Lord's test, Rishabh Pant got injured while stopping a ball from Jasprit Bumrah. Dhruv Jurel came in as a substitute to keep for the whole test.
Although Pant did bat in both innings of the test match and scored some valuable runs, he always looked uncomfortable while batting. As he looks to gain full fitness, the Indian team management is looking to somehow play Rishabh Pant as a batter while playing Jurel as a specialist wicket-keeper. Jurel averages 40.40 with the bat in the 4 test matches he has played so far.
