Rishabh Pant retired hurt during the fourth test between England versus India, fourth test in Manchester. The Indian wicket-keeper who was very close to becoming the Indian batter with the most sixes in Test cricket had to retire hurt after getting hit by a ball by Chris Woakes.

During the final session of the day, Pant tried to reverse sweep English pacer Chris Woakes. Pant was batting on 37 and as usual, looked to up the tempo.

But watching Pant go for the big shot, Woakes bowled a yorker, which ended up being a low full toss. Pant missed the shot completely and the ball hit his right foot directly.
England appealed for the wicket but the umpire did not agree with them. The hosts went for the review and the replay showed the ball was missing the stumps completely. However, in the meantime Pant looked in severe pain, hopping and limping.
Eventually, the umpires had to call for a buggy, which looks like a golf cart. Pant hopped on it and Ravindra Jadeja replaced him in the middle.
Not to forget Pant was hit on the finger during the Lord’s Test and could not keep wicket as well. Only an official statement from the medical team or the Indian team management will clarify if Pant has done any significant damage to his foot.
Earlier in the day, England won the toss and asked India to bat first. Despite a good start from the openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, India lost the momentum during the fag end of Day 1’s play. At the time of writing the article, India is 241/4 with Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja on the crease. Sai Sudarshan was the pick of the batters for India with 61 off 151.
