After succumbing to a loss in a Test match that India had dominated for majority of the game, the young team under their captain Shubman Gill will be looking for revenge in their second match against England at Birmingham as part of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

The match, which will begin at 3.30pm Indian Standard Time on July 2, already has fans eagerly awaiting to see if India’s talismanic bowler Jasprit Bumrah would be part of the starting XI. While there have been speculations that the champion bowler would be left out as part of his workload management in the tour, he was seen bowling full tilt at the practice sessions.

Would England be looking to go 2-0 up in the five-match Test series or will India’s young guns come back strong and draw level? Why is the second match pivotal for India?

The ongoing series marks India’s first in the current World Test Championship cycle. With a draw or a win, the team will be looking to register their first points for the cycle. More importantly, the Indian team has won only one of their previous nine Tests. These include the 0-3 shocking loss to New Zealand at home as well as the 3-1 loss to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy, which knocked them out of the contention for the final of the last WTC cycle.

If the Indian think-tank does decide to go without Bumrah in the second Test, it would make for a rather inexperienced bowling line-up that could include Arshdeep Singh or Akash Deep in place of pacer, and Kuldeep Singh coming in for Shardul Thakur, who had a rather ordinary outing in the first test match.

But India can take hope from the fact that their batsmen have been firing - with Shubman, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul scoring a century each, and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant crossing the 100 mark twice in the previous match. They would be hoping that the four keep the form, with Sai Sudharshan and Karun Nair joining the mix.
