Team India's star batter Virat Kohli announced retirement from Test cricket on May 12. The legendary player represented India in 123 matches and scored 9230 runs, including 30 hundreds and 31 fifties. Kohli's retirement came as a big shock for fans and the cricket fraternity, as everyone expected him to play the upcoming five-test series against England in June 2025.

Just a few days after Virat's retirement, English county club Middlesex has expressed interest in roping in the player for the English County Championship. Alan Coleman, the director of the club, confirmed that there will be conversations about bringing in India's star batter.

"Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course, we are interested in having that conversation," Coleman was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

Currently, Virat is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for its franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The player has been in sublime form throughout the IPL 2025; he has scored 505 runs in 11 matches at an average of 63.13.

What's next for Virat Kohli?

Since Virat has hung up his boots from Test cricket and T20Is, the player will continue to represent Team India in the ODIs as well as the IPL. Post the completion of IPL 2025 on June 3, Virat would be seen in action in October 2025 in the ODI series against Australia. That would be quite a long gap for the player to not play any competitive cricket.

Additionally, it would be interesting to see whether Virat accepts the offer to join the English county. Possibilities are countless, and the fans would surely be hoping to see Virat back in the whites. If this comes true, the rivalry between him and James Anderson would reignite, as the legendary bowler is playing the championship for Lancashire.
