India are taking on England in the fourth Test match at Old Trafford, Manchester, where English captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first. It's Stokes' fourth toss win of the series, continuing his good run with the coins. Yashasvi Jaiswal (58 runs off 107 balls) and KL Rahul (46 runs off 98 balls) gave India a strong start with a 94-run stand.

However, Rahul was eventually dismissed by Chris Woakes, who bowled a tidy spell this afternoon. The bowler had kept things tight, and his persistence finally paid off. Soon after Rahul's dismissal, Jaiswal followed him back to the pavilion after scoring a spectacular half-century.

Liam Dawson dismissed Jaiswal, taking his first wicket in his comeback match. The batter looked in fine form, hitting ten boundaries and one six in the match. Then came in the Indian skipper Shubman Gill. He started his innings slowly, guarding the ball and trying to keep every shot grounded. He looked solid until Stokes angled the ball in, anticipating Gill's leave.

He didn't offer a shot, but the ball hit the pads, and the on-field umpires declared him out. A clear misjudgement from the Indian skipper. He instantly went for a DRS, but the ball tracking showed it was hitting the stumps. Since no shot was offered, impact didn't matter, and the on-field umpire's decision stayed.

What does the cricket rule book say?

As per cricket rules, if the ball hits the stumps, even if a shot is not offered by the batter, he will be given out. In this case, impact is not considered. However, in a regular LBW, impact and pitching are considered before passing judgment. With a heavy heart, Gill had to return to the pavilion. He has scored 12 runs off 23 balls, including one boundary.

As we write, India are on 160-3 in 55 overs. The game has just begun, and the batting side looks in trouble. Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant are out there in the middle, and their job would be to bat till the end of the day. Losing any wicket from here can backfire on India.
