Speculation surrounding Virat Kohli’s future with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and potential retirement from the IPL has been widespread. However, former India opener Kris Srikkanth has clarified that Kohli’s exceptional performances, including his role in RCB’s 2025 IPL title win, indicate he is far from retiring. Reports about contract changes are largely business decisions and do not reflect his intent to step away from the league.
Virat Kohli enjoyed a stellar 2025 IPL season, scoring 657 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71. He registered eight half-centuries and played a crucial role in guiding RCB to their maiden IPL title. His consistent performances reaffirmed his position as one of the league’s most dependable batters and highlighted his ability to handle pressure in high-stakes matches.
Despite rumours surrounding commercial contract renewals, Kohli remains central to RCB’s plans. His fitness, technique, and experience continue to make him a vital asset, and his form suggests he is capable of performing at a top level for several more seasons. Analysts and fans widely expect Kohli to stay committed to RCB, with his leadership and batting playing a key role in shaping the team’s future campaigns.
"It's just a speculation because he (Kohli) has just won RCB the IPL. So I don't think he'll retire. These are all obvious rumors. These are just business decisions (change in ownership). But as far as Virat Kohli is concerned, he'll continue with RCB," said Kris Srikkanth.
