India's former cricketer Ajay Jadeja was quite furious when the topic of playing Jasprit Bumrah came up during a conversation on Sony Sports Network. As per Jadeja, India shouldn't play Bumrah in the opening match of the Asia Cup 2025 against the UAE. Bumrah, whose workload management remains in question has been included in the squad for the Asia Cup.
However, Jadeja believes that the Indian team can save the pacer for important matches like the one against Pakistan or the Super 4s. Playing him against the UAE doesn't make sense at all. Bumrah is one of India's best bowlers across formats and having him around is definitely a huge boost for the other bowlers. But including him in all the matches is not something the management should forward to doing according to Jadeja.
"What is the need to play Bumrah tomorrow, man? Usually, you keep him wrapped in cotton wool. Ab UAE ke against bhi tumhe Bumrah chahiye? (Now you need Bumrah even against the UAE?) Either don't protect him at all, or if you need to preserve him, then do it in this type of match. Logic dictates that, but we never do things with logic," said Ajay Jadeja on Sony Sports Network.
"The match is against the UAE. No disrespect because I have seen their captain, [Muhammad] Wasim, and the talent he possesses. You cannot rank any team, but this is a T20 World Cup-winning Team India. Hence, I am clear. If Bumrah plays tomorrow, I am going on strike," he added.
India will play their first match against UAE in the Asia Cup 2025 on September 10 in Dubai. Captain Suryakumar Yadav was quite certain about taking care of Sanju Samson during the pre-match press conference. This means that it will be interesting to watch the playing XI of India in today's match.
