As India prepares for the Super Four match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup 2025, former spinner Amit Mishra has suggested a tactical plan: allow Shivam Dube to bowl 2–3 overs. Mishra believes that Dube’s growing confidence with the ball and his all-round capabilities could provide India with an important advantage in the middle overs.
Dube has shown glimpses of his bowling potential in this tournament, picking up crucial wickets in prior games. Mishra noted that by giving him more responsibility, India could ease the workload on frontline bowlers while still applying pressure on Bangladesh’s batters. A key factor is that Dube’s medium pace and variations can catch batters off guard, especially in the middle overs when partnerships start to form.
The former spinner emphasized that Dube’s slower deliveries, well-placed yorkers, and ability to mix lengths could be especially useful against Bangladesh’s top order. Even a bowler who isn’t a regular can change the momentum if used wisely, forcing batters to take risks and make errors. Mishra believes that extending Dube’s bowling role could create breakthroughs at crucial moments.
"Shivam Dube is such a player who, if you bowl, then he can do a lot of things for you in the future. It's because he's the talent; his batting is good. In my view, he has to work on his bowling. Even yesterday, he did a good job, got the wickets of two set batsmen. The most important thing was that he bowled four overs, and it was an overall good bowling display," said Amit Mishra on his YouTube channel.
Giving Dube 2–3 overs can add flexibility to India’s bowling strategy. His presence not only helps control the run rate but also keeps opposition batters guessing. By using an all-rounder like Dube effectively, India can create pressure, potentially inducing mistakes from Bangladesh’s batters who might underestimate him.
Additionally, allowing Dube to bowl longer spells helps him grow as a true all-rounder, contributing with both bat and ball. This approach gives the captain more options to manage the innings, rotate bowlers efficiently, and maintain fielding intensity throughout the match.
